The first edition of the Pedagogical Residency Program conducted by Labedu in 2024 was concluded on December 6. Over three months, seven professionals with experience in educator training participated in a series of activities to delve deeper into the organization’s methodologies, experiencing in a practical and immersive way the approaches that transform children’s learning.
Andrea Guida, director of Labedu, views the initiative as an important step toward integrating professionals into training processes through a two-way street that compensates participation and strengthens leadership and collaboration skills, preparing residents to work on the implementation of Labedu’s methodologies and contributing directly to the organization’s growth and increased impact.
“As we scale our impact, significant organizational challenges arise, such as the need to attract and integrate well-prepared professionals who can contribute to the continuity and expansion of this work. The Residency is an opportunity for these professionals to experience the methodological approaches of Learning to Study Texts (AET) in practice, contributing to and mastering a methodology that is constantly being refined,” she says.
The Program featured synchronous and asynchronous activities conducted by the team of coordinators, the organization’s trainers, and Angélica Sepúlveda, a special collaborator in the development of AET training materials. Focusing on this methodology, the residents presented final projects that demonstrated their mastery of teacher training concepts and practices.
For pedagogical coordinator Denise Correa da Silva, a 2024 resident, the program changed her perspective on how children approach reading and studying academic texts. “Today, I understand that structured work focusing on the academic language used in these AET texts is fundamental for students to develop reading comprehension strategies, gradually gaining the autonomy to read increasingly complex texts,” she says. Carla Tocchet, a teacher and fellow resident, adds: “Some records of classroom situations revealed that even when faced with tasks as complex as those proposed in AET, children are capable of performing them and surprising us with their agency in the learning process.”
Teacher Julia Menezes Alonso, who was also part of the 2024 class, highlighted the collaboration and exchange of experiences within the group. “I realized the importance of mastering this perspective on text structure and language to better teach how to read academic texts. These were very rich moments of exchange within the group, and it is wonderful to hear perspectives from people with diverse professional backgrounds; I learned a lot from the residents’ group sharing,” she stated.
