ProLEER Seminar at Harvard Brings Together Education Specialists from Different Countries

14 de July de 2026

The challenges of research and implementation of language learning projects were once again the theme of the annual meeting of researchers from the Professional Learning Network (ProLEER), an international network of specialists that the Education Laboratory has been part of since 2012. The group meets at Harvard University, the birthplace of its foundation, with guests who bring academic and practical perspectives to deepen the debate on the particular and shared challenges of their contexts.

In 2023, the seminar held in October in the United States included the participation of Labedu’s board of directors, represented by Beatriz Cardoso and Nicole Paulet, leading the Brazilian nucleus of researchers. At the organization’s invitation, the executive president of Todos Pela Educação, Priscila Cruz; the Development and Solutions manager at Itaú Social, Sonia Dias; and the deputy secretary of Education of Maranhão, Nadya Dutra, also participated.

Nicole and Nadya presented the experiences of the Learning: Inside and Outside School project, exploring their experimental knowledge to establish connections between theory and practice with the objective of examining the potential integration of these recommendations in a large-scale context.

For Sonia Dias, the event provided important international exchanges of experiences. “It was an excellent opportunity to meet Latin American researchers with very interesting studies on didactic strategies for promoting reading and also to have contact with the work of different Education departments in their territories, that is, to learn from other experiences in application. Being at the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies at Harvard also provided contact with very consistent research on the process of reading and language acquisition in different scenarios,” she states.

About ProLEER

The ProLEER international network of researchers brings together specialists from nine countries – Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico, Peru, the Netherlands, and the United States – and is affiliated with Harvard University. Its objective is to improve educational practices and policies in order to strengthen the learning of children from zero to ten years old. The coordination of the group in Brazil is led by the president of the Education Laboratory, Beatriz Cardoso. In addition to the in-person seminar held annually, the group also promotes thematic webinars open to the public, and dialogues with different researchers, education professionals, managers, and public policy makers who are references in the field.
