Professor Paola Uccelli’s visit to Brazil to teach the mini-course “Language development, comprehension, communication and academic performance: promoting reading to learn throughout development” resonated beyond the classroom. The activity was featured in journalist Renata Cafardo’s column in Estadão and also in the most recent episode of the podcast Fim de Tarde Eldorado.
In the column, Renata, who participated in the course, highlights one of the studies presented by Paola, which followed 42 families over ten years. The study shows how the way of conversing with young children—listening to their ideas and encouraging exchange—directly impacts language development and can make a difference even into adolescence.
