Initiated in 2022 with the municipal education network of Várzea Paulista (SP), the Learning to Study Texts (AET) project concluded its training cycle in 2024, after having positively impacted more than 100 teachers who teach approximately one thousand 4th and 5th grade elementary school students.
As part of the conclusion, Labedu prepared and shared with the network a summary report and a booklet detailing the journey undertaken in partnership with the municipality. This material aims to inform and share with teachers and the school community the activities carried out and the achievements obtained in the children’s learning process. Additionally, certificates were issued to teachers with attendance above 75% of the training hours.
After two years of study and extensive work, all educators from Várzea Paulista who participated in the project have accumulated references that enable them to consolidate a new practice of reading and studying academic texts with 4th and 5th grade students. As a result of study, practice, and reflection on practice, these educators now have an expanded understanding of how to read and study these texts.
This enables them to establish, from this point forward, activity planning that is more conscious of reading challenges, more meaningful dialogue with students about History content, and a better learning experience.
For Bruna Caruso, project coordinator at Labedu, the experience in the municipality marked a cycle of transformations. “We consolidated the conclusion of this project by sharing excellent results and a series of valuable experiences for Labedu as well, resulting from a partnership with the Municipal Education Department of Várzea Paulista. We wish much success, and hope that the learning from these two years will be the opportunity for new achievements in education currently taking place in the municipality.”
AET is currently underway in 17 other municipalities: Francisco Morato, in the state of São Paulo, and 16 others in Maranhão: Apicum-Açu, Araguanã, Bequimão, Central do Maranhão, Cururupu, Guimarães, Lagoa do Mato, Luís Domingues, Maracaçumé, Nova Olinda do Maranhão, Palmeirândia, Passagem Franca, Porto Rico do Maranhão, Santa Helena, São Domingos do Azeitão, and Sucupira do Riachão.
