In an article published in the newspaper O Globo on February 1, 2022, the Professor of Developmental and Educational Psychology at the University of Barcelona and collaborator of the Education Laboratory, Ana Teberosky, states that “language is the context in which our students grow and are educated”.
For the researcher, “it is not common for us to consider the generational characteristics of the children we educate: how old they are and in what context they are being schooled. But it is necessary to do this exercise, to think that they were born from 2010 onwards, after the global and massive use of the internet (from the 1990s onwards), emails, mobile phones and Instagram. They are students of the digital era, who navigate cyberspace and interact through electronic means with complete naturalness”.
Understanding contemporary changes has become essential because it influences language; as its uses change, its teaching and learning necessarily change as well.
