Event celebrates partnership for implementation of continuing teacher training project in Bahia

October 7, 2025

On October 3rd, the Maria Emilia Foundation and the Education Laboratory held a meeting with representatives of six municipalities in Bahia will begin implementing the Learning to Study Texts (AET) project. The event marked the beginning of the partnership and celebrated the joint commitment to children's learning and the strengthening of public education networks in the region: Água Fria, Antônio Cardoso, Conceição da Feira, Conceição do Jacuípe, Ipecaetá, and Irará.

Bringing together municipal secretaries of Education, the meeting aimed to strengthen collaboration between partners and promote an exchange of ideas on how to consistently implement continuing education programs within the school systems. The program was dedicated to reflecting on past experiences with the AET program and the opportunities that open up with its arrival in Bahia.

For the Secretary of Education of Irará, Mariana Menezes, the meeting represented a moment of optimism. “Today we had the opportunity to discuss and learn more about the proposal of the 'Learning to Study Texts' project, and I leave here full of hope that this is yet another tool that we can use to strengthen public education in our territory and in the state of Bahia as a whole,” stated the secretary.

Among the guests was the vice-president of Undime Bahia Section, Ricardo Berbel, who brought the perspective of municipal managers on the importance of collaborative initiatives that can contribute to improving learning outcomes in the state.

Also present was the coordinator of the Learning Reconstruction Axis of Seduc/MA, Ana Neri Santos da Silva, who shared the progress achieved from the experience of implementing the AET in 16 municipalities in Maranhão. “The project methodology has promoted the active participation of children and the involvement of teachers, creating spaces for dialogue between students and educators. This movement has been so significant that the municipal networks themselves have requested the expansion of the project to other classes and teams, which shows that we are reaching those who matter most: the students,” she stated.

For Nicole Paulet, director of the Education Laboratory, the meeting reinforced the power of collaboration between the third sector and school networks. “The opportunity to bring together managers and technical teams who have already begun diagnostic work with Labedu was very significant. This meeting expresses a collective commitment to the same purpose: improving children's learning. Recognizing that the training of teachers and managers is at the heart of this process is what motivates us to strengthen a collaborative network among the municipalities in the territory, capable of sustaining the work in the coming years,” she emphasized.

The project Learning to Study TextsCurrently in the diagnostic and agreement phase, the program will be implemented starting in 2026 in all 4th and 5th grade classes of elementary school in the six municipalities, reaching approximately 100 schools, 500 teachers, and 3,700 students. The initiative will last four years and is supported by the Maria Emília Foundation, which remains committed to contributing to the consolidation of public policies focused on equity and quality in education.
