The first edition of the Pedagogical Residency Program conducted by Labedu in 2024 was completed on December 6th. Over the course of three months, seven professionals with experience in training educators participated in a series of activities to deepen their understanding of the organization's methodologies, experiencing in a practical and immersive way the approaches that transform children's learning.
Andrea Guida, director of Labedu, sees the initiative as an important step towards integrating professionals into training processes in a two-way street, which rewards participation and strengthens leadership and collaboration skills, preparing residents to work on implementing Labedu methodologies and directly contributing to the growth of the organization and increasing its impact.
“As we expand our impact, significant organizational challenges arise, such as the need to attract and integrate well-prepared professionals who can contribute to the continuity and expansion of this work. The Residency is an opportunity for these professionals to experience in practice the methodological approaches of Learning to Study Texts (AET), contribute and appropriate a methodology that is constantly improving”, he states.
The Program included synchronous and asynchronous activities led by the organization's team of coordinators, trainers, and Angélica Sepúlveda, a special collaborator in the process of developing AET training materials. Focusing on this methodology, the residents presented final projects that demonstrated their appropriation of teacher training concepts and practices.
For pedagogical coordinator Denise Correa da Silva, resident in 2024, the program changed her understanding of how children approach situations of reading and studying academic texts. “Today, I understand the structured work focused on the academic language used in these AET texts as fundamental for students to develop reading comprehension strategies, gradually gaining autonomy to read increasingly complex texts,” she says. Carla Tocchet, teacher and also resident, adds: “Some records of classroom situations revealed that even when faced with tasks as complex as those proposed in AET, children are capable of carrying them out and surprising us with their protagonism in the learning process.”
Professor Julia Menezes Alonso, who was also part of the 2024 class, highlighted the collaboration and exchange of experiences among the group. “I realized the importance of adopting this perspective on the structure of the text and on language to better teach how to read academic texts. These were very rich moments of exchange among the group, and it is wonderful to hear perspectives from people with diverse professional experiences. I learned a lot from sharing with the group of residents,” she said.
