On October 3, the Maria Emília Foundation and the Laboratório de Educação (Laboratory of Education) promoted a meeting with representatives from the six municipalities in Bahia that will begin the implementation of the Learning to Study Texts (AET) project: Água Fria, Antônio Cardoso, Conceição da Feira, Conceição do Jacuípe, Ipecaetá, and Irará. The event marked the beginning of the partnership and celebrated the joint commitment to children’s learning and the strengthening of public education networks in the region.
Bringing together municipal secretaries of education, the meeting aimed to strengthen the coordination between partners and promote a space for exchange regarding the paths toward a consistent implementation of continuing education actions within the networks. The program was dedicated to reflecting on previous experiences with AET and the horizons opening up with its arrival in Bahia.
For the Secretary of Education of Irará, Mariana Menezes, the meeting represented a moment of optimism. “Today we had the opportunity to engage in dialogue and learn more deeply about the Learning to Study Texts project proposal, and I leave here full of hope that this is another tool we can use to strengthen public education in our territory and the state of Bahia as a whole,” stated the secretary.
Among the guests was the vice-president of Undime Bahia, Ricardo Berbel, who brought the perspective of municipal managers on the importance of collaborative initiatives that can contribute to improving learning outcomes in the state.
Also present was the coordinator of the Learning Recovery Axis of Seduc/MA, Ana Neri Santos da Silva, who shared the progress achieved through the experience of implementing AET in 16 municipalities in Maranhão. “The project’s methodology has promoted active participation from children and the involvement of teachers, creating spaces for dialogue between students and educators. This movement has been so significant that the municipal networks themselves have requested the expansion of the project to other classes and teams, which shows that we are reaching those who matter most: the students,” she stated.
For Nicole Paulet, director of the Laboratório de Educação, the meeting reinforced the power of collaboration between the third sector and education networks. “The opportunity to bring together managers and technical teams who have already begun the diagnostic work with Labedu was very significant. This meeting expresses a collective commitment to the same purpose: improving children’s learning. Recognizing that the training of teachers and managers is at the center of this process is what moves us to strengthen a collaborative network among the municipalities in the territory, capable of sustaining the work in the coming years,” she highlighted.
The Learning to Study Texts project, currently in the diagnostic and agreement phase, will be implemented starting in 2026 in all 4th and 5th-grade elementary school classes across the six municipalities, reaching approximately 100 schools, 500 teachers, and 3,700 students. The initiative lasts four years and is supported by the Maria Emília Foundation, which maintains its commitment to contributing to the consolidation of public policies focused on equity and quality in education.
