Between June and August 2022, the Education Laboratory will host student Francis Read Barth, who is in his 4th semester of the undergraduate program in Latin American Economic Policy at Princeton University, in New Jersey. His internship will last two months, during which he will be involved in research on the methodology Learn to Study Texts, currently being implemented in the municipality of Várzea Paulista, in São Paulo.
Francis’s arrival at Labedu marks the beginning of collaboration between the Education Laboratory, the Princeton University and the Veredas Institute, whose mission is to promote socially engaged communities in the Americas through professional and educational experiences, fostering ethical practices and a sense of shared responsibility. The Veredas Institute connects students from universities that prioritize international internships as a development axis for their students’ education. Currently, the focus is on finding institutions in Brazil and Guatemala that provide this interaction. The Education Laboratory was considered an appropriate institution to offer meaningful learning experiences for interns whose programs have been facilitated by Veredas.
Since 2015, Labedu has welcomed undergraduate students to bring different forms of knowledge into the process of building and implementing its methodologies. “It is part of our mission to expand spaces so that future professionals from different fields can learn about and engage with the challenges of public education. We are pleased to put our institution at the service of training young people interested both in academic research and in implementing projects to improve learning where it happens,” comments Nicole Paulet, Labedu’s Director of Content.
In 2022, Labedu’s group of interns also includes the participation of Danilo Sérgio Barbosa de Jesus, a student in the 5th semester of Psychology at Anhembi Morumbi University, in São Paulo. Danilo is integrated into the project Learning: inside and outside school, and has been part of the team since the beginning of his academic training. The student Luciana Ribeiro da Silva, currently in the 5th semester of the double major in Sociology and Education at Wellesley College, in Massachusetts; and Jenny Sangliana, now graduated in neuroscience at MIT – Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
