Isabel Gervitz, from Laboratório de Educação, participated in a discussion at the Ruth Cardoso Center on the future of public education in São Paulo in the wake of student-led protests that gripped more than 200 schools.
In attendance were representatives from various nonprofits, as well as public school teachers and social entrepreneurs.
The panelists agreed that the students' initiative and demands can inform a re-imagining of educational spaces in Brazil that breaks from past interventions by genuinely considering the priorities of students, teachers, and local communities.
